Why Dakota Digital?

Your original gauges lie. Speedo reads 10% fast. Fuel gauge is either full or empty. Temp gauge is a binary "fine" or "you're fucked."

Dakota Digital makes direct-fit digital clusters for classics. They drop into your stock bezel, use modern sensors for accuracy, and display everything: speed, RPM, fuel level, oil pressure, coolant temp, volts.

What You Get

- VHX Series: Analog needles with digital LCD readouts. Looks mostly stock. $800-$1,200. - HDX Series: Full digital displays. Modern look, customizable colors. $1,200-$1,800. - RTX Series: High-end digital with carbon fiber faceplate. Show-quality. $1,800-$2,500.

Most builders go VHX. It keeps the classic needle aesthetic but adds digital precision.

Compatibility

Dakota makes application-specific clusters for: - Chevy C10, Blazer, Camaro, Chevelle, Nova - Ford Mustang, F-100, Bronco - Mopar Charger, Challenger, Dart

Check Dakota's catalog for your exact year. If they don't make a direct-fit, they sell universal gauge kits that mount in custom bezels.

Installation Overview

1. Remove stock cluster - Disconnect battery ground - Unscrew cluster bezel from dash - Disconnect speedometer cable, gauge wiring, and lighting

2. Install Dakota cluster - Drop new cluster into stock bezel (direct fit, no cutting) - Connect provided wiring harness to gauges

3. Run new sensors - Speedo: GPS antenna (mounts under dash, no cable needed) - Tach: Wire to coil negative or ECU signal - Fuel: Reuse stock sender or upgrade to modern 0-90Ω unit - Temp: New coolant temp sensor (screws into intake manifold) - Oil pressure: Replace old mechanical gauge with electronic sender

4. Calibrate and test - Power on, enter setup mode - Set fuel tank capacity, tire size, and signal type - Drive and verify readings

Total install time: 4-6 hours if you're methodical.

Why This Upgrade Is Worth It

Accuracy: GPS speedo is dead accurate. No more "am I doing 65 or 72?"

Diagnostics: Digital displays show exact temps and pressures. You'll catch overheating or low oil pressure before damage occurs.

Modern features: Many clusters include boost/vacuum gauge, 0-60 timer, and programmable shift lights.

Resale value: Clean digital gauges look professional and add $500-$1,000 to resale value.

Common Questions

Q: Will this work with my LS swap? A: Yes. Dakota clusters work with any engine. Just connect the ECU tach signal.

Q: Can I keep my original cluster as backup? A: Yes. Keep it in a box. Reversible swap.

Q: Does GPS speedo work in tunnels? A: Briefly no, but it interpolates speed for 30-60 seconds until signal returns.

What You'll Notice

First startup: Gauges light up with smooth animations. Everything reads accurately. You can see exact voltage, temp, and oil pressure.

On the road: No more guessing. You know your speed, RPM, and vitals at a glance. And if something's wrong, you'll know before it grenades.
